The Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition continues to push forward advocacy efforts for Gail’s Law (Assembly Bill 263/Senate Bill 264). A public hearing in the Assembly is anticipated in September or October, while meetings with Senators are ongoing to secure a Senate vote. Recently, Coalition members met with Senate Minority Leader Dianne Hesselbein to discuss how Senate Democrats may help advance the bill. Assembly leaders Rep. Barbara Dittrich and Rep. Amanda Nedweski are also in discussions with Assembly Health Chair Rep. Donna Rozar Moses and Speaker Robin Vos about holding a hearing.

Gail’s Law has also received recent media attention. Dr. Dawn Regner of the Medical College of Wisconsin joined WTMJ’s Julia Fello on Wisconsin’s Afternoon News to share Fello’s personal mammogram story and highlight the importance of breast cancer screenings. The two also discussed Gail’s Law as part of the broader conversation. Meanwhile, WJFW 12 covered the Coalition’s Beyond the Pink Ribbon Advocacy Training, featuring interviews with advocates Rose and Kari.

Looking ahead, the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) will host its 2025 Wisconsin Cancer Action Day on October 15th, focusing on Gail’s Law. Rep. Amanda Nedweski is confirmed as a morning speaker, and about 75 participants are expected to attend. Coalition members and supporters are welcome to join. Register here.
